Intersex Awareness Day: Get Involved!
Intersex Awareness Day is the (inter)national day of grass-roots action to end shame, secrecy and unwanted genital cosmetic surgeries on intersex children. We intend to create a "day of action" similar to Take Back the Night, National Coming Out Day, or International Women's Day in that it will focus on grass-roots activism organized by local activists.
Below is the list of cities/groups sponsoring an Intersex Awareness Day event or thinking about sponsoring one. If you want to get involved, please contact your local organizers of IAD and help them make it happen!
If your city is not listed, that means we do not yet have a sponsor in that city. If this is the case for you, find a local organization that will sponsor the event--for example, try LGBT group in your city or college campus--and help them bring IAD to your city! We have "suggestions" for what activities to do, but what you will do is entirely up to you and your neighbors (and please tell us if you think of any great idea!)
We also have a handbill
ready to promote Intersex Awareness Day itself and to recruit volunteers to help put on Intersex Awareness Day in your city.
List of Local IAD Organizing
Please note that this is not the exhaustive list of all IAD events. These are just the ones we are aware of--and last year, there were many more IAD events across the country than we were aware of.
